Did you know?
In Google Maps, when you’re zoomed out such that you’re looking at satellite imagery (instead of images taken by airplane), around 7 ticks from the furthest zoom, the scale gets larger the closer you are to the equator, and smaller the closer you get to the poles! Try it!

What I Learned Today
redfive: danicarachelknight: Amanda: There are four quadrants to the universe, and they live in the Alpha Quadrant, and their ship was flung WAYYY into the Delta Quadrant and it would take them 70 years to get back to the Alpha Quadrant Danica: Why would you want to go back to the Alpha Quadrant? Amanda: WOULD YOU WANT TO STAY IN THE DELTA QUADRANT? yo man, Delta quadrant is scary. the borg...

davez: marreka: Turning off my lights for one hour will not solve a single bit of the world’s problems. Now leave me the hell alone so I can do my mounds of homework I have for next week. Its a statement, not a solution. I don’t need to state it. I’m not going to jump off a bridge because a couple of people in Australia think it’s a good idea. I’m only posting this...

Write bad code now, improve it later?
marco: Jack Cheng quoted Adam Wiggins’ Order of Operations for writing code: Make it work. Make it elegant. Make it fast. Make it secure. I disagree. The biggest problem is that this ignores reality: once it works, how likely are you to go back and make it elegant, fast, and secure? If it’s for personal use, how likely are you to care? If it’s for work, how likely is your employer to be...

Good job, Google
Apparently, “Hi, this is Matt and I’m testing out Google Voice” really means “hi this is matt and that’s no good lord” according to google voice’s voicemail transcription feature. Fantastic.

Not really subscription pricing.
marco: After watching the video of Apple’s event yesterday, I think I was wrong in assuming that they meant recurring subscription payments would be possible for apps. It sounds like they only meant the functionality that was then demonstrated: buying add-ons from within the app. And Apple’s no-demo, no-timebomb policy most likely precludes the use of that mechanism to hack apps to behave as if...

childbearinghips: I’m watching this week’s episode of ANTM, and they said there are NO Wal-Marts in New York City. Can that even be true?? Yes. There is no room in the dense New York City for a huge waste of space like Wal-Mart.

In my geography class, >10% of the papers had been plagiarized. 4 cases of “continuous cut and paste”, 11 cases of periodic cut and paste, and 6 cases of no citations. That’s ridiculous.

America's 10 Unhappiest Cities →
urbanpringle: davez: (via danicarachelknight) I am extremely EXTREMELY shocked to find that Portland is the #1 unhappiest city in the US.
