Vending out DNS records is an incredibly smart move for Google and is another reason why Google is so ahead in the game when it comes to organizing information on the internet.
The amount of metrics they can gather through this is so incredibly valuable. This is a huge win for both Google and their customers, both in terms of a (hopefully) faster and more reliable DNS service and the huge gains in trend spotting leading to improved search results.
